The Dallas Cowboys are in the same league as the Las Vegas Raiders, Jacksonville Jaguars and New Orleans Saints for all the wrong reasons.

A week after Black Monday, the Cowboys made the decision to part ways with Mike McCarthy, a decision that could prove to be pretty costly given the fact that they couldn't interview two of the most popular names in this coaching cycle.

Ben Johnson, who landed with the Chicago Bears, and Aaron Glenn, who was named the head coach of the New York Jets on Wednesday.

With Johnson, Glenn and Mike Vrabel off the board, the Cowboys are now left with fewer options. That list could potentially include Washington Commanders offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury, whose offense has been electric all season. Dallas has not yet requested an interview with Kingsbury but his name has been bandied about by fans as a viable option.

However, former ESPN reporter Ed Werder is pessimistic about Kingsbury's fit with the Cowboys. Responding to a fan who asked if the Commanders OC has a shot at the job, Werder wrote:

"I'm skeptical that he's the proper fit. He uses college quarterbacks. Offense requires mobility Dak no longer possesses."

So far in his NFL career as a coach, Kingsbury has had Kyler Murray and Jayden Daniels to count on, both QBs who keep defenses honest by using their feet.

The Cowboys did not request an interview with Ben Johnson but reports indicated that they had plans on interviewing Glenn before the Jets moved quickly to put an offer on the table to bring him back to the franchise where he played his first eight seasons in the league.

What Dallas Cowboys' coaching candidates pool looks like

There's still no word from Dallas about setting up an interview with Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders. GM Jerry Jones reportedly reached out to the two-time Super Bowl winner, who said he was flattered by the interest.

With Sanders on the backburner, the Cowboys have interviewed Seahawks assistant head coach Leslie Frazier and former New York Jets HC Robert Saleh, which means they are in the clear when it comes to the Rooney Rule.

They have also interviewed Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore and their very own OC Brian Schottenheimer, who had a second interview with the franchise on Wednesday.

As things stand, the Cowboys have no plans to interview any more candidates for the role, which means we could very likely see one of the aforementioned names take over, though it is unlikely to be Deion Sanders.

NFL insider Clarence Hill Jr reported that Dallas has its sights set on going forward with Schottenheimer by week's end.
