Former NFL defensive back Domonique Foxworth spoke with David Dennis Jr. about the picture and about Jones' response to it. Dennis thinks that Jones' response was inappropriate even in 2022. Here's what Dennis Jr. said on the Domonique Foxworth Show:
"Yeah I mean, I think that the photo, like a lot of people, characterizes the photos, just just like one gotcha photo of Jerry Jones. And everybody was supposed to be scandalized. By but I think the thing is that it's, it was used in the larger context of his race relations and being an eight-year-old white guy from Little Rock, Arkansas."
He continued:
"The issue here is, I mean, obviously, a lot of people are going to say, this took place 50, you know, 65 years ago, he was only 15. You know, what should he know? But I think the problem is in 2022, his answer is still really troublesome."
He went on to say:
"He basically characterized it as he just wandered into this event, not quite knowing what was going on, and was like, wow, that's weird. There's like white kids yelling at black kids. I'm gonna go home now. That's, there's no way to no reason to believe that happened. This was on the net. This is on the news. They were the governor was called the National Guard. This was because he knew where he was going at the time."
Dennis explained that even if Jones didn't know what was going on, he still supported the white supremacists by staying and being active:
"And even if he showed up, not knowing what it was, at some point, he heard the N-word. And he heard a lot of violence. And he just stood there and did not stand with the black people. So you're standing sort of against them. And in 2022 You got to have a better answer."
A very interesting point indeed. Let's take a look at what Jerry Jones said in response to the photo.
Jerry Jones explains why he was present at the Little Rock desegregation protest
Following the discovery of the picture, Jerry Jones responded as to why he was present at the rally. Jones said he had no idea what was going on and he pointed to the zeitgeist of the time and how long ago it was. Here's how he put it:
"That was 65 years ago, I had no idea when I walked up there what I was doing, just a reminder to me how to improve and do things the right way."
He continued:
"Nobody there had any idea, frankly, what was going to take place. You didn’t, we didn’t have all the last 70 years of reference and all the things that were going. You didn’t have a reference point there, but still, I’ve got a habit of sticking this nose, right place at the wrong time."
Many didn't think this was a good response. NBA superstar LeBron James asked the media why they aren't giving Jones the same attention and criticism as they have been giving Kyrie Irving lately. Although the picture was from over 60 years ago, Jerry Jones' presence and his response have been extremely controversial.
