Missing a facemask grab is among the most "egregious" errors referees can make, and it happened again on Monday.
During the game between the Dallas Cowboys and Cincinnati Bengals at AT&T Stadium, officials failed to see Marist Liufau holding on to Joe Burrow's mask during a joint sack with Donovan Wilson and hand out a penalty:

There was much anger at the no-call from fans, with his one tweeting:

"This is fu**ing egregious"
More of the rage can be seen below:
"How is this still not reviewable," one wondered.
"Weekly Bengals vs Refs moment," another groaned.
"There has got to be an eye in the sky for this blatant shit. Period," another demanded.
The drive subsequently ended in a punt, the second of four straight between both teams after two field goals to open the fourth quarter. Burrow eventually ended that drought by finding Ja'Marr Chase for six for the second time in the game.
The Cowboys committed a turnover on downs on their final drive, ending the game.
Other missed facemask penalties throughout the 2024 season
However, it is not as if this is the only unpunished facemask penalty to have befallen Joe Burrow. Last month at the Baltimore Ravens, defensive tackle Nnamdi (formerly Justin) Madubuike did the same thing late during one of the Bengals’ final drives.
It was part of a series of uncalled offenses that the Ravens committed. Other chief ones were Marlon Humphrey getting away with a late hit on the quarterback and tight ends Tanner Hudson and Mike Gesicki being held in plays that would have scored them.
But the most egregious has to be the miss that the referees made in the prior week’s Los Angeles Rams-Minnesota Vikings game. Late in the fourth quarter, Sam Darnold needed a deep pass to get himself out of his team’s territory and ended up getting sacked in the endzone by Byron Young for a safety.
Problem was, it involved grabbing the mask. Even the sophomore linebacker’s reaction was an obvious indicator - until it was not. After the game, Tre Blake explained:
“The quarterback was facing the opposite direction from me so I did not have a good look at it. I did not have a look, and I did not see the facemask being pulled, obviously. The umpire had players between him and the quarterback, so he did not get a good look at it. He was blocked out as well.”
The Rams won that game 30-20.
