NFL Rumors: Analyst names one team which could tempt Tom Brady out of retirement

Wild Card Round - Tennessee Titans v New England Patriots
Retired superstar QB Tom Brady

Tom Brady officially announced his retirement from the NFL during the 2023 offseason for the second consecutive year. When he did so in 2022, he decided to change his mind just a few weeks later and return to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for another season. His situation is a bit different this year as he is no longer under contract.

If Brady decides to unretire again ahead of the 2023 NFL season, he will be an unrestricted free agent. This means he will be able to sign with any team interested in offering him a new contract. He's just a year removed from leading the NFL in passing yards and touchdowns, so he will likely be a popular target if he does in fact decide to return.

Nick Wright recently appeared on an episode of "The Herd" to share his take on the situation.

“I had Eric Mangini say to me about a month ago that he doesn’t think Tom Brady is going to play Week 1, but if there were a team that he knows the system, that were to have a need a quarterback midway or late in the year, he could potentially come back under that circumstance.

He added:

Well, now the Raiders have Josh McDaniels as the head coach, and a starting quarterback that is the most injury-prone starting quarterback in football. Could this possibly open the door a bit to Tom Brady being a midseason Raiders acquisition? I think possibly.”

Wright believes the Las Vegas Raiders are logical midseason landing spot for Brady in 2023 if Jimmy Garoppolo were to suffer an injury or struggle to keep the team competitive. They recently signed him during the 2023 NFL free agency period to replace Derek Carr, who joined the New Orleans Saints.

The pairing of Josh McDaniels and Tom Brady makes sense due to their past history together with the New England Patriots. McDaniels served as Brady's offensive coordinator for 11 years of massive success.

Josh McDaniels was the offensive coordinator for the New England Patriots prior to being hired as the head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders ahead of the 2022 NFL season. He held the position for 13 years in a row, 11 of them with Tom Brady.

McDaniels was Brady's offensive coordinator when he won all three of his NFL MVP awards. McDaniels also helped Brady win three of his seven Super Bowl rings. Due to their previous success together, the Raiders may be interested in reuniting them at some point during the 2023 NFL season.
