The Dallas Cowboys, who finished with a 7-10 record in 2024, are looking for a new coach after Mike McCarthy was shown the door. With the team’s list of interviewees expanded, the latest reports say that offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer is under consideration for the role.

Taking to X, Clarence Hill Jr., who has been a Cowboys writer since 1997, posted:

"Sources have confirmed that the Cowboys will interview former offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer for their vacant head coaching position."

Here, Clarence made a little mistake because Brian Schottenheimer is still working with the Dallas Cowboys after initially joining the team on March 24, 2022, as a consultant. A year later, he was promoted to offensive coordinator on February 4, 2023.

Besides, Jerry Jones' Cowboys have also spoken with other well-known coaches. One of them is Leslie Frazier, who is the assistant head coach for the Seattle Seahawks. Frazier is known for his strong defensive coaching skills. Another candidate is Robert Saleh, the former head coach of the New York Jets.

That said, despite rumors, the Cowboys are not planning to interview CU coach Deion Sanders any time soon.

Another rumor links Philadelphia Eagles' offensive coordinator Kellen Moore to the Dallas Cowboys' vacant head coaching position.

Both Sanders and Moore's connection to Dallas is no coincidence. Their roots in the Cowboys organization run deep since they have had a playing stint with the team. In fact, Kellen Moore began his coaching career there.

Brian Schottenheimer’s impact with Dallas Cowboys

As reported by USA Today, the Dallas Cowboys finished as the NFL’s top-scoring offense under Schottenheimer's watch in 2023. The team finished with a 12-5 record and an NFC East title. In 2024, Dallas missed the playoffs and ranked 21st in points per game.

Schottenheimer, who has been an offensive coordinator for five different teams since 2006, is highly respected in Dallas. His long-term career in coaching includes stops with the New York Jets, Los Angeles Rams, Georgia Bulldogs, Seattle Seahawks and, of course, the Cowboys.

Ironically, Schottenheimer was not the main play-caller for the Cowboys in recent seasons despite his experience. That responsibility shifted to head coach Mike McCarthy after Kellen Moore, the previous offensive coordinator, left for the Eagles.
