Kevin O'Connell gives an update on Justin Jefferson's future contract

Justin Jefferson is arguably the best receiver in the NFL currently and is vital for the Minnesota Vikings. He is now eligible for a contract extension, and the franchise is looking to keep him for years to come.

However, sometimes things do get tricky with star receivers and they end up getting traded. As seen in the case of Tyreek Hill. Due to this, many Vikings fans are concerned about whether their team can afford Jefferson long term.

Vikings head Kevin O'Connell recently spoke about the impending contract extension and provided a positive update:

“There’s no question … all of our organization is excited about having Justin Jefferson on our team for a really long time,” O’Connell said. “Knowing what that’s going to mean from a numbers standpoint and all those things is one thing, and that will all work itself out."

It’s the goal of having him as the legitimate best receiver in football on our team for as long as we can possibly have him. I think that’s really important.”

The Minnesota Vikings won the AFC North last season, but it would be fair to say that they wouldn't have had it not been for Jefferson.

Since all signs are pointing towards Jefferson staying with the Vikings for years to come, it will be interesting to see how lucrative of a deal he will end up signing.

Tyreek Hill is currently the highest-paid receiver in the NFL, but that is likely to change when Justin Jefferson's new contract gets into effect. As per over the cap, Hill is earning around $30 million per year from the Dolphins. He is followed by Davante Adams, who earns $28 million per year.

Keeping Jefferson won't be cheap for the Vikings, but they will have to pay him if they still want to contend and keep their fans happy. Whether Kirk Cousins will remain as the quarterback for Jefferson in the future remains to be seen, but the former LSU receiver is about to get a lot richer soon.

Last season, he had 128 catches for 1,809 yards and scored 9 touchdowns in 17 games, and won the Offensive Player of the Year award as well.
