"Nice subtle shot at Jerry Jones" - Cowboys fans read behind $60,000,000 Dak Prescott's comments on Mike McCarthy's future

Dak Prescott wants Cowboys to keep Mike McCarthy despite Jerry Jones' reticence

Dak Prescott has played under multiple coaches in his NFL career but clearly likes Mike McCarthy the most. Together, they had three straight 12-5 records and NFC East titles in 2023 and 2021 entering this season.

But in 2024, the winning notion is at risk of being upturned. The league's highest-paid player ($60 million annually from his contract extension) is out with a hamstring injury, and his coach is looking like a scapegoat as the weeks pass with Dallas at 5-7.

Still, Prescott does not want the partnership to end. Speaking to Yahoo's Jori Epstein on Zoom on Tuesday, he said:

“I believe in him wholeheartedly. I don't want to necessarily get into the nuts and the screws of it all obviously, but I think he definitely deserves a chance, another contract and a chance to coach this team among more influence. ‘On his terms’ may be a good way to say it.”

Meanwhile, everyone has been wanting to know how Dak Prescott has been doing since his season-ending injury. Speaking to CBS’ Garrett Podell, he said:

"I feel good. Still on the crutches. I'll be on the crutches for a little bit longer but starting to walk a little bit more with my weight. Getting to drive today, that's something new. So that's a step."

Another question that still looms in everyone’s minds is: when will he return to the field? He said that he wanted to be back as soon as possible - OTAs in the spring, with no restrictions whatsoever:

"That's part (in) getting this jump on this surgery that we thought was inevitable anyways. At that point, just doing everything I can to be the best quarterback and leader of this team to help this team come in next year with the best outfit that we can."

The Dallas Cowboys are currently being led by Cooper Rush, who has gone 2-2 as a starter so far in 2024
