It's been over a week and we have precious little to report on the Dallas Cowboys' search for a new head coach. After parting ways with Mike McCarthy, Jerry Jones made sure to send a big message to Cowboys fans by immediately reaching out to Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders.

“To hear from Jerry Jones is truly delightful, and it’s intriguing. I love Jerry and believe in Jerry. After you hang up, and process it, and think about it, it’s intriguing. But I love Boulder and everything there is about our team, the coaches, our student body and the community,” Sanders told ESPN after speaking to Jones.

Since then, the Cowboys have not set up an official interview with Sanders but have interviewed a few candidates for the head coaching vacancy. In any case, one man believes Sanders would be the right man for the job. On the most recent episode of The Pivot Podcast, Alabama's legendary former head coach Nick Saban gave Sanders his seal of approval along with a ringing endorsement.

"I want him to get that job,” Saban said on 'The Pivot Podcast.'

“I have a tremendous amount of respect for Deion Sanders. First, he’s a great person, and he’s done a great job of marketing the program to create a lot of national interest.”
“He’s always been successful, whether it was at Jackson State, high school, or now in Colorado. His teams have always been well-coached.”

Latest on Dallas Cowboys' search for a new head coach

While speculation has strongly linked Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore with the job, it appears Vegas has a new betting favorite this week — current offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer.

Schottenheimer interviewed with the Cowboys yesterday in a session that reportedly lasted three and a half hours. His hire would be a curious one since he does not have head coaching experience and will likely continue running things his predecessor's way.

Jerry Jones has also interviewed former New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh, a man who has a follow-up interview with the Jacksonville Jaguars slated for this week. Per multiple reports, Saleh also has an offer on the table from the San Francisco 49ers to make him the highest-paid defensive coordinator in the league.

They have also interviewed Seahawks assistant head coach Leslie Frazier, a man who has prior experience serving as the head coach of the Minnesota Vikings from 2011-13 after taking over as interim coach for the final six games in 2010. Frazier went 21-32-1 during his time in Minnesota.
