Nick Wright believes that the 49ers should not hesitate to move on from Brock Purdy if they are among the top 10 teams picking in next year's NFL Draft. The San Francisco star is still on his rookie contract and is slated for a big extension next year. However, after leading the team to two consecutive NFC Championships and one Super Bowl appearance, this season has gone downhill for him and his colleagues.

San Francisco is 5-7, has the only losing record in the NFC West, and is bottom of their division. Nick Wright thinks that this is a more accurate reflection of Brock Purdy than the last two years when they had a stocked roster and a lot of players helping him on offense. The analyst said,

"I think it is far more fair and far more instructive for the Niners to judge Brock Purdy off this season than last season, when you're projecting forward... I think it would be doing your franchise a disservice if you're the Niners, if you are not quietly having meetings... I just think it is going to be a part of the Niners off season discussions, 'if this continues, do we reset the quarterback clock without having the mortgage draft capital?'"

Nick Wright also said that since the 49ers need to replenish an aging offense, they might not want to give Brock Purdy a huge contract. Instead, he advocated for considering a reboot, saying,

"Because the other thing is, the offense is getting old... So does having a $60 million quarterback that you're maybe not 100% sure is a force multiplier makes sense if you're kind of rebooting the offense? I think the Niners drafting a quarterback is absolutely on the board if they end up with the top 10 pick."

Nick Wright's comments about Brock Purdy highlight the impossibility of 49ers QB's job

Brock Purdy has always had a question mark hanging over him, and not just from Nick Wright, despite leading the 49ers to great heights since taking over as the starter. Part of that is dictated by him being taken last in his draft class, which might cloud any judgment about how good he is. The other thing that gets thrown at him is that he only looks good because of elite colleagues like Christian McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel, and Brandon Aiyuk, to name a few.

However, that is a double-edged sword because he is being judged when none of them are available. Patrick Mahomes has looked distinctly mortal this year for the Chiefs after losing some of his top receivers and running backs. San Francisco has missed all the players above plus offensive line stars like Trent Williams, which would hamper any quarterback. Which view the San Francisco general manager takes this offseason will be interesting to see.
