No Aaron Rodgers no problem: NFL Insider links Jets with stunning Lamar Jackson swoop

Could the New York Jets end up with Aaron Rodgers or Lamar Jackson as their quarterback this season?

The Jets made it official that they are moving on from second-year quarterback Zach Wilson after two seasons and will look to replace him with a new franchise quarterback.

Appearing on the "Rich Eisen Show" on Feb. 16, Sports Illustrated writer and analyst Peter King predicted that the Jets will go after Lamar Jackson if they are unable to land Rodgers in a trade.

King said:

"It's easy to sit here and say, 'Oh, get Lamar, sign Lamar, pay Lamar.' Well, that's of course. But what does that mean exactly?

"So to me, I think the Jets are going to have a very tough decision on their hands. And, you know, I think they will go after Rodgers if he does play. And if they don't get him, I think they will at least put their sniffers out and seriously consider Lamar Jackson."

Kimg added that he thinks Jackson will be tagged by the Baltimore Ravens, but if he isn't, then he could be traded to a team that offers him the most guaranteed money in a new contract.

He added:

"And if as you think and I think. I mean I think you think this that he's probably going to be given the franchise tag and the less restrictive one. So to see if there are any offers out there that the Ravens then would be able to get two first-round picks as compensation.

"You know, let's see what happens but to me I think finding out whether some team out there is willing to pay Lamar Jackson a jillion dollars, guaranteed. I think that is the story of the off season."

There's a chance that the Jets will miss out on both Aaron Rodgers and Lamar Jackson this offseason.

Rodgers hasn't made a decision about his future in football yet and he could end up retiring. He could also choose to stay with the Green Bay Packers or force a trade elsewhere from the Jets.

The Ravens could possibly come to terms with Jackson on a long-term deal. There's a chance they won't and that they'll franchise tag him with the possibility of a tag-and-trade in play.
