The San Francisco 49ers and Detroit Lions were expected to deliver a high-scoring thriller at Levi's Stadium in the season finale of Monday Night Football – and they did not disappoint. The two teams combined to score 74 points, with the Lions outlasting the 49ers and winning 40-34 to improve to 14-2.
San Francisco will feel hard done and will likely feel that should have won the game. They led by seven points midway through the third quarter, but two turnovers from quarterback Brock Purdy and a missed goal in a span of three drives allowed the Lions to mount a comeback and leave Levi's Stadium with a win.

49ers fans were incensed about Purdy throwing two interceptions to the same player — Lions safety Kerby Joseph — and flamed him on social media:
Some fans claimed his performance against the Lions was proof that the 49ers should avoid handing him a new deal that'd make him one of the highest-paid players in the league:
"He's not worth $60 million. He's worth roughly half that. The 49ers would do better going after Sam Darnold," @ChrisHanov39200 opined.
"Please don’t pay Brock Purdy $60+ million," @JRaww_559 pleaded.
"Brock Purdy not worth $60 million," @kevinstevens16 claimed.
"Brock Purdy is not worth $50-$60 mil a season. San Francisco should let him walk this off-season," @glennkaplan13 added.
Purdy and Co. will end their season on the road when they take on the Arizona Cardinals at State Farm Stadium on Sunday.
