Former NFL star OJ Simpson is back in the news and his relationships with ex-partners like Nicole Brown and Christie Prody are back in focus. He recently reached out to Elon Musk after the billionaire took over Twitter asking that he be verified.

The replies set off a torrent of back and forth. Some sympathized with him and said he was the first victim of "cancel culture". Others pointed out that he was found liable in a civil lawsuit for murdering his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman.

Christie Prody: The one person who knew OJ Simpson's deepest feelings

One person uniquely positioned to offer a perspective on the whole situation is OJ Simpson's ex-girlfriend, Christie Prody. She was his girlfriend during the early 90s when the entire murder investigation burst to the fore.

In 1994, he was involved in a criminal investigation in which he was acquitted. In the civil trial in 1997, he was held culpable for wrongful deaths. The majority of the $33.5 million judgment remains unpaid.

Christie Prody believes OJ Simpson to be guilty based on her association with him during that period. She said in 2009 that when they went on their first date, she wore black. He allegedly told her that his ex-wife also wore black on the night of her murder. Prody further alleged:

"Just the way I would dress, the way I would wear my hair - minor things - it was always back about Nicole. He'd always bring her up. It was a nonstop issue with him... that her lifestyle led her to what happened, basically. That she was asking for it, deserved it. That's what he stated quite often."

Asked why she did not leave based on her beliefs, she alleged that he was threatening her and manipulating her. Further, she noted that she had nowhere to go except her friend and he would have found her there.

"... only place I had to go were to friends of ours. He would come by … threaten, manipulate. I had no choice at that point. I had nowhere to go."

She finally left him after she became tired of all the incidents he was involved in. They got together during the criminal trial and stayed till the civil trial. But a road rage trial in 2001 proved to be the last straw for her, which eventually willed her to call it quits. She said:

“It was just too much. When I met him, it was his murder trial, and then after that it was his custody trial. Then it was his civil trial. Then it was his road rage trial and then there was going to be this one. And I couldn't do it anymore."

Christie Prody never thought that OJ Simpson would get out of prison. But seeing him out and still chatting up women like he once did with her, she just concluded that that's just him.

They remain estranged.
