Patrick Mahomes and Chiefs will be derailed in divisional round en route Super Bowl three-peat, claims ESPN analyst - Source: Imagn

The 2024 NFL season is about to begin, with the biggest storyline of the season being Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs chasing a historic Super Bowl three-peat. However ESPN analyst Dominique Foxworth isn't sold on it.

The former Baltimore Ravens cornerback joined Mina Kimes and Bill Barnwell on ESPN's Spicy Takefest. Speaking on the show, Foxworth said that everyone remembers the 2023 Chiefs as an insurmountable Goliath because they won the Super Bowl. But in reality, he believes that the Chiefs were never contenders. While people assume this season, the team is built different, Foxworth points out glaring holes.

"My medium take is that the Kansas City Chiefs are going to be derailed on their route to a three-peat in the divisional round of the NFL playoffs," Foxworth said. ... They're relying on a rookie receiver in Xavier Worthy who we don't know what he'll turn into. And receivers who have been kind of dropped into this Chiefs offense have not really worked out in a way that we expect."

Foxworth added that Hollywood Brown is already injured. And if the Chiefs both of these wide receivers, they'll be back to square one like last season, dependent on Isiah Pacheco, Travis Kelce and Rashee Rice. Foxworth further mentions that L'Jarius Sneed's absence on the defensive side will jarring.

"They'll be relying on that defense to come back, and that's not something that you can always count on. Defense is coming back and being as great as they were before without L'Jarius Sneed... They'll run into a team that stops them in the second round of the playoffs, and they will not be the first team in the history of the Super Bowl to win three in a row."

Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs will begin three-peat quest with 2023 AFCCG rematch

Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs will take on Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens to start their Super Bowl three-peat quest. This 2023 AFC Championship Game rematch will be a high-profile clash, with both the teams improving their roster significantly this offseason.

While Mahomes and the Chiefs still enter the season as Super Bowl favorites, the landscape of AFC has changed this offseason. The road ahead is not going to be a smooth ride, with the return of a healthy Joe Burrow and Aaron Rodgers, a loaded Texans and Jim Harbaugh's NFL return. But if anyone can do it, it's Patrick Mahomes. He's proved it time and again.

The Chiefs and the Ravens kick off the 2024 NFL season at Arrowhead, on 5 Sept, Thursday at 8.20 pm EST.
