Patrick Mahomes gets candid about avenging Super Bowl loss

Super Bowl LV
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is thinking about avenging his last Super Bowl loss

The Kansas City Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes are again in the NFL's penultimate game. After narrowly defeating Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals, the Chiefs will lock horns with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Both teams recently played in the Super Bowl, with the Eagles back in 2017 as they defeated Tom Brady and the New England Patriots. While Mahomes and the Chiefs were last back there in 2020 and lost to Brady, but this time he was with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

For the Chiefs QB, after coming into the league and winning MVP and a Super Bowl basically straight away, to then losing one, he is hoping that this time, he will be able to enjoy it a bit more.

Mahomes said via the NFL Twitter account:

“I’ve dealt with failure; losing an AFC Championship, losing a Super Bowl, I know how much hard work and the daily grind that it takes. So, I’m just excited to get to that game with the teammates that I have here and a lot of new teammates that haven’t been to a Super Bowl game so let’s bring them along and prepare them so we can go out and put our best foot forward.”

A 14-3 regular-season record for the Chiefs and the number one scoring offense in the NFL (29.2 points per game) meets an Eagles team that is the third-best in scoring (28.1 points per game) and has a stellar defense.

After the Eagles' demolition of the San Francisco 49ers, attention now turns to a Chiefs team that has a dinged quarterback. Mahomes' ankle injury was clearly bothering him against the Bengals, yet he was still able to pull out a victory.

The two powerhouses meet in two weeks' time as the Chiefs star is looking for his second Lombardi trophy, while Jalen Hurts is looking for his first after claiming the NFC Championship.

For the Chiefs star, he hopes he has a better time of it than in 2020 when the Buccaneers defense made life tough for him in the 31-9 loss.
