Patrick Mahomes is going to the fifth Super Bowl in seven years. The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback led his side to victory in one of the greatest games of the season, winning a 32-29 contest against the Buffalo Bills to win the AFC championship.

Mahomes and the Chiefs had to see off their biggest rivals in the conference. Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills had their chances but lost for the fourth time in five seasons to Andy Reid's team in the postseason. For the third straight time, the Chiefs won a one-possession game against the Bills in a playoff run.

After the game, while speaking on the podium to celebrate the conference championship, Patrick Mahomes spoke about his respect for Josh Allen, who always gives the Chiefs a tough time.

"I have so much respect for Josh, man. He's a true competitor," the quarterback said. "A true warrior. A great football player. They always come down to the wire. Luckily, we were on the winning side this time, but like I said, I'm just excited to get down to New Orleans. Let's go make history."

Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs one game away from historic three-peat

The Chiefs are one game away from making history in the NFL. During the Super Bowl era, no team has ever won three straight championships in a row. They will need to beat the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX on February 9th, and if they do so, their mission will be accomplished. Kansas City is making its fifth Super Bowl appearance in seven seasons since Patrick officially became their starter.

The only quarterbacks to ever defeated them in the playoffs during this span were Tom Brady (2018 and 2020) and Joe Burrow (2021). The three-peat sequence began against the Philadelphia Eagles, whom they defeated in Super Bowl LVII two years ago.

Now, the final challenge will be the same team after they squashed the Washington Commanders 55-23 during the NFC Championship Game. The two teams last played each other during the 2023 regular season, when the Eagles won 21-17 at the Arrowhead Stadium.
