Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has weighed in on new Washington Commanders offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy amid backlash from LeSean McCoy.

The former Chiefs coordinator fielded questions in response to McCoy tweeting that he doesn't see that Bieniemy has the tools to be a head coach in the NFL.

Many have backed Bieniemy, and now Mahomes has come to the defense of his former coordinator, with whom he won two Super Bowls, tweeting:

"There should be no questions on how great of a man/coach Coach Bienemy is. His leadership has a direct impact on the player/person i am today! 10+ years learning under one of the greatest coaches of all time.. and i cannot wait for him to continue to prove doubters wrong!" 💪🏽

Many have questioned the former Chiefs OC for the last few seasons after he was a highly sought after head coaching candidate, but yet failed to secure a job. This occurred while other coaches who many deemed "less than Bieniemy" got head coaching jobs.

Now in Washington as he looks to help the organization turn things around offensively, the 53-year-old is now looking forward to a new challenge.

The 53-year-old has overseen some of the best offensive football of the last six years. During his time in Kansas City, the offenses under him have not averaged below 28.2 points per game for a season.

Now, a lot of that has to do with Mahomes, Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce, but in Washington, he will not have such luxuries.

That isn't to say that in receivers Terry McLaurin, Jahan Dotson and Curtis Samuel, that he can't unlock more of their potential, but if fans are hoping that the Commanders will average around 28 points per game, well, think again.

There will be improvement, no doubt, and the former Chiefs coordinator will be looking at proving that he can do the job without the likes of Mahomes.

Many don't think he can do it, but for professionals such as Bieniemy, having people doubt you is the best external motivator you can find.
