Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes expects Travis Kelce to take his game to another level in the playoffs. The Chiefs will play the Houston Texans on Saturday in the divisional round.

The Chiefs were the No. 1 seed and had a bye in the wild-card round. Ahead of their first playoff game, Kansas City is an 8.5-point favorite.

Not only are the Chiefs confident they will three-peat, but Mahomes is expecting Kelce to turn back the clock and be the dominant player he always is in the playoffs.

“I think the greats step up in the playoffs,” Mahomes said, via NBC. “It’s just higher intensity and the best players and the best leaders step up and make the best plays. He’s done that and I expect the same from him going into this playoffs.”

Kelce and Mahomes have been a dominant force in the playoffs. Kelce recorded 257 receiving yards and four touchdowns in 2022 and 355 receiving yards and three touchdowns in 2024, the Chiefs' last two Super Bowl victories.

Patrick Mahomes believes Texans are a problem

Despite the perception that the Chiefs will walk through Houston, Mahomes knows the Texans can cause problems for them.

“Yeah I think what everybody’s kind of known," Mahomes said of Houston, via SI. "That defense is extremely real. They have a great quarterback and a great coach. We knew when we played them this last time, it was a hard-fought game.
"They get after the quarterback really well. They have really good secondary players and the linebackers fly around. So it’ll be a great challenge for us and we’ll have to play our best football.”

On Dec. 21, Kansas City previously defeated Texans 27-19. Mahomes completed 28 of 41 passes for 260 yards and a touchdown in the win. The kickoff between Houston and Kansas City is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. ET on January 18.
