The Kansas City Chiefs signed former Jacksonville Jaguars offensive tackle Jawaan Taylor as their first big acquisition in the 2023 NFL Free Agency. Minutes after the Chiefs lost right tackle Andrew Wylie to the Washington Commanders, the arrival of Taylor was announced.
Since being drafted in 2019, Taylor has spent the past four seasons in Jacksonville, where he played 66 games. This is a big addition for the Super Bowl champs, and NFL fans were left stunned by this acquisition.
Here's how social media reacted to the news of Taylor signing with the Chiefs:

The Chicago Bears were heavily interested in Jawaan Taylor. Unfortunately, he missed out on getting the former Jaguars tackle. The Bears were also in for Mike McGlinchey, but the Denver Broncos signed him to a massive deal. It will be interesting to see what the franchise does next in order to protect Justin Fields.
This was undoubtedly a great move for the Kansas City Chiefs considering the uncertainty around their offensive line. Andrew Wylie has already signed with the Washington Commanders, and now all eyes will be on Orlando Brown Jr. If he ends up staying with the Chiefs along with the acquisition of Taylor, the Chiefs' o-line could be set for years.
Jawaan Taylor contract details:
Jawaan Taylor is signing a four-year deal with the Chiefs which will be worth around $80 million. He will be getting $60 million in guaranteed money and it is a great haul for the 25-year-old OT.
It will be interesting to see whether Taylor will play as a right tackle or left for the Chiefs, but the situation will be resolved soon. The Chiefs are already in conversation with the Houston Texans regarding left tackle Laremy Tunsil.
If the Super Bowl champions are unable to reach an agreement with Orlando Brown Jr., it is likely that they will pursue the Texans' tackle. Patrick Mahomes is coming off probably the best season of his career, and how he handles the changes on his offensive line remains to be seen.
The Chiefs have already released Frank Clark ahead of free agency, and many more familiar faces might be on their way out. Mecole Hardman and JuJu Smith-Schuster are free agents as well, and how the Chiefs will handle their situation will be one to keep an eye on.
As of now, Jawaan Taylor will hope to protect Mahomes for many years to come, and hopefully, Brett Veach will be proud of this huge signing.
