Roger Goodell could eliminate NFL preseason

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has been more available for the media than usual recently due to the ongoing NFL Draft. It makes sense considering it is one of the biggest events of each season and he is the one to announce all of the top picks. His recent media appearances have included promoting the new draft class and discussing changes that could be coming to the structure of the NFL.

In an episode of the Pat McAfee Show, Goodell discussed the possibility of eliminating or reducing the NFL preseason. He suggested that the schedule could use more regular-season games instead.

"I think we're good at 17 now, but I'm not a fan of the preseason. I'd rather replace a preseason game with a regular-season any day," Goodell said. "If we got to 18 and two, that's not an unreasonable thing."

Roger Goodell is referring to the current structure of the NFL schedule, which includes 17 regular-season games and three preseason games. He is interested in having 18 regular-season games and two preseason games.

While many around the NFL seem to be in favor of the potential plan, apparently New England Patriots center David Andrews is not one of them. He recently opposed the concept from his social media account.

"With all due respect, you don't need it, because you're not suiting up," Andrews said. "And there are a lot of veterans who don't, but a lot of young players and undrafted guys need it to develop and prove that they deserve a chance to play. But hell, maybe I don't know what I'm talking about."

As NFL Commissioner, one of Roger Goodell's biggest jobs is tweaking the league to make it more beneficial for all involved. This could include further modifications to the preseason as well as a brand new scheduling guideline for the annual Super Bowl.

Roger Goodell suggests a major change to future Super Bowl dates

Another topic of discussion during Roger Goodell's appearance on the Pat McAfee Show was centered on potential changes to the timing of the Super Bowl each year. His theoretical plan would push the annual date back one week from where it currently falls.

The most exciting aspect of this development for fans is that the Super Bowl can now be held on Presidents Day weekend each year. The main advantage of doing so is that the bulk of supporters will be off work on Monday after the game on Sunday night. Most NFL fans are likely to embrace this adjustment.
