Patriots fans are feeling giddy after a video showing cornerback Christian Gonzalez's training went viral. Watching on social media, one can see the defender doing well with tracking routes, intercepting balls, deflecting passes, and looking fit and raring to go.
The last part was crucial because Christian Gonzalez started well after being drafted in the first round by the Patriots in the 2023 NFL Draft. He was the Defensive Rookie of the Month in September and had already had his first career interception against Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.
But he suffered a torn labrum and a dislocated shoulder which ended his season prematurely. Christian Gonzalez ended up playing just four games in his first season in the NFL.
Hence, to see him training was not merely a hype video but confirmation that he is approaching peak fitness. Patriots fans were heartened to see that the injuries do not seem to have slowed him down in any way.

Patriots CB Christian Gonzalez made good use of his enforced injury absence
In a recent interview, Christian Gonzalez said that he is feeling healthy and ready to go and that the injury is not affecting him at all, mentally or physically. In a press conference, he said,
"(I'm) healthy, excited to go, focused on, you know, just getting better and coming in every day and just keep getting back to work... That's [shoulder injury] in the past you know? Ready for right now and just happy to be back in the building be around the guys."
In fact, he revealed why the enforced layoff might have worked better for him because he could get deep into the playbook and learn the football side of things while he was rehabilitating. The Patriots cornerback answered,
"Just focusing on playbook, learning just diving more into the football aspect. Like learning more about the Playbook and all that and then, you know, being around the guys and then going back home visiting with family."
With him having learned the playbook and now showing his ability in training, the Patriots fans have every reason to feel that they have a superstar in their midst with the young Christian Gonzalez and that he could be a difference-maker.
