The UVA football team suffered an enormous tragedy two weeks ago. A former walk-on player shot five people after their bus from a trip to see a play in Washington D.C. returned to the Charlottesville campus. Three people were killed, all members of the UVA football team.
Devin Chandler, Lavel Davis Jr., and D’Sean Perry were all killed on November 13, 2022, and the UVA football team has not taken the field since. The funerals of the three former players will all be held this upcoming week.
With the three teammates hailing from three different states, the logistics for the team were set to be tricky. However, New England Patriots team owner Robert Kraft stepped in.

Robert Kraft sent a plane to Charlottesville so that the entire team could travel to the funerals in Miami (Florida), Dorchester (South Carolina), and Huntersville (North Carolina).
However, this is not the first time that Robert Kraft has used his plane to help others. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he used the plane to transport masks and other equipment to places in desperate need. He also used the plane to bring the parents of the Parkland school shooting victims to Washington D.C. for the "March for our Lives".
UVA held an on-campus memorial for all students to attend last weekend before the Thanksgiving break. The Cavaliers canceled their final two games of the season, which were against Coast Carolina University and Virginia Tech University.
UVA running back Mike Hollins released from hospital after shooting
University of Virginia running back Mike Hollins was one of the five shot in the mass shooting. Hollins had already departed the bus when he heard shots ring out. He then turned around to see if he could help and that was when he was shot. Hollins was shot in the back with the bullet doing extensive damage as it exited through his stomach.
After undergoing multiple surgeries, he was released from the hospital just before Thanksgiving. He will now have to undergo months of rehabilitation in order to fully recover from his injuries suffered from the bullet wound.
With one year of eligibility remaining, he plans on getting back on the football field for the Cavaliers' 2023 season next fall.
