Geno Smith and the Seahawks defeated the Bears 6-3 in a dour game that had fans pining for Pete Carroll's return to take over from successor Mike Macdonald. The Week 17 Thursday Night Football matchup on Boxing Day turned out to be a big disappointment after the festivities on Christmas.
Neither team got going and both Geno Smith and Caleb Williams failed to record a touchdown pass. The ball was punted 13 times: 6 by the visiting Seattle team and 7 times by the hosts. All the points came from successful field goal conversions. The rainy conditions did not help but this was a drab affair with the cumulative 9 points the lowest all season.
The disappointment was larger for the Seahawks fans. After two consecutive losses against the Packers and the Vikings, they had lost the top spot in the NFC West to the Los Angeles Rams. This was a chance for them to right the narrative with a convincing victory and also strengthen their case for the playoffs.
They were playing against a Bears team that had lost nine straight coming into the game and were already eliminated from postseason contention. Yet, they could not impose themselves.

Seattle fans took to X/Twitter blaming Mike Macdonald for failing to draw up a creative offense for Geno Smith to thrive in tonight. They even said that his predecessor Pete Carroll would have done a better job given the circumstances. Here are some of the comments from the social media platform.
Many fans were critical of the effort from both teams and slammed them in their responses. Here are some more reactions.
"Seattle beats Chicago 6-3 and it wasn't Cubs or White Sox vs the Mariners. It was Seahawks vs Bears" - pointed out one.
"Void that whole f*cking Bears Seahawks game." - fumed another.
"Bears vs Seahawks was the punt bowl" - noted a third.
Pete Carroll might not return to Seahawks to replace Mike Macdonald but might be new Bears HC
The whole Pete Carroll subtext in this game was fascinating. It was reported that the Bears are interested in talking to the former Seahawks coach for the vacant coaching position. Currently, they have Thomas Brown as the interim head coach but they might not see him as the solution based on tonight's performance and the ones before that.
Whether it is the Seahawks or the Bears, it was clear from the result tonight that something needs to change on both sides.
