Peyton Manning received the Mizel Institute's 2024 Community Enrichment Award in Denver on Wednesday. The former Broncos quarterback has been well known for contributing to the community, which is what the award enshrines. Since retiring, he has remained in Denver, making it his new home.

As a legendary NFL quarterback and one of the greatest to ever step on a football field, his opinions regarding the position are highly respected. He remains connected to the Broncos through his career with the team, as well as his proximity to their facilities.

Before receiving the award, Peyton Manning commented on the current quarterback situation with the Broncos entering the 2024 NFL season. They selected Bo Nix in the first round of the 2024 NFL draft to join Zach Wilson and Jarrett Stidham in an apparent competition for the starting job.

Manning said:

"It sounds like they have a great competition over there. That's always good and makes everybody better. So I think the quarterback position is in good shape, and I think Sean's system is extremely quarterback friendly. It's a great system to play in."

Head coach Sean Payton made the bold decision to bench Russell Wilson towards the end of last season. This eventually led to the veteran quarterback' release in the offseason. He eventually signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers, opening the quarterback competition in Denver.

While the Broncos have yet to officially name a starter, Bo Nix would appear to have the inside track to the job. Zach Wilson is a failed starter and Jarrett Stidham is a career back-up.

Manning said about Nix:

"I'm super happy for him to be here. I think it's a great fit for him and I can tell how excited Sean is to have Bo here."

Peyton Manning appears to be rooting for Bo Nix, who previously attended the iconic Manning Passing Academy.

Peyton Manning began his career as a starter for the Indianapolis Colts right away during his rookie season. He led the entire NFL with 575 passing attempts that year and also set an NFL record that still stands today by throwing a massive 28 interceptions. It's the most ever in a single season by a rookie.

However, Manning hopes someone breaks his record during the 2024 NFL season, as long as it isn't Bo Nix.

Manning said:

"It's well documented how many interceptions that I threw. If any of these rookies wants to break my interceptions record, I'd be for it. I don't want Bo to break it, but I'd like to get that off of my resume."

Manning added that with an extra game on the schedule now, the likelihood of his undesirable record is more likely to be broken at some point. He set the record back when only 16 games were played, but the NFL schedule has now advanced to 17 games. Five rookies are projected to be starting quarterbacks this year, so maybe one of them could break it.
