The Tampa Bay Buccaneers' quest to win the NFC South took a massive blow on Sunday as they lost 26-24 to the Dallas Cowboys at the AT&T Stadium.

The visitors trailed by nine points heading into the fourth quarter, but a stellar touchdown drive cut the deficit to two points. With less than two minutes left in the fourth quarter, the Buccaneers' defense got the ball back in Baker Mayfield's hands for the chance to lead a game-winning drive.

On the first play from the scrimmage, Jourdan Lewis got to the quarterback on a cornerback blitz and wrapped himself around him. However, Mayfield stayed on his feet before shoveling a pass to Rachaad White to avoid getting sacked. However, cornerback DaRon Bland stopped the running back in his tracks before ripping the ball off his hands to seal the win for the Cowboys.

Buccaneers fans on social media were incensed and called out White for his game-ending mistake:

Some fans questioned why Bucky Irving, the team's leading rusher, was on the bench when the game was on the line:

"Fire Todd Bowles or whoever is responsible for playing Rachaad White over Bucky Irving," an X user wrote.
"Rachaad White playing over Bucky Irving should have the whole Buccaneers staff fired tomorrow morning." - a user with the username @patrickglaser23 wrote.
"Bucs still don’t know that Bucky Irving is 10x better than Rachaad White in week 16 huh," a fan said

The Buccaneers' only plausible path to the playoffs was with a division title win. They started Week 16 at the top of the NFC South standings but their loss to the Cowboys coupled with the Atlanta Falcons' 34-7 victory over the New York Giants in rookie Michael Penix Jr.'s first start saw Tampa Bay lose control of their fate.

The Buccaneers and Falcons are 8-7 but Atlanta swept the season series between them, giving them the advantage if the two teams finish with identical records. To win the division Tampa Bay has to win out and hope that Atlanta loses at least one game.
