Raheem Mostert sets lofty goal for 2024 after a career season in 2023

Miami Dolphins running back Raheem Mostert had a very unusual 2023 season. Most running backs peak for a couple of years in the NFL before they start declining, mostly due to wear and tear on their body.

Mostert, playing in his ninth NFL season last year with the Miami Dolphins, had a resurgence after a breakout season. Mostert ran for over 1,000 yards for the first time in his career and led the league with 18 rushing touchdowns.

This past weekend, Mostert was in Meriden, Connecticut, helping teammate Tyreek Hill run his youth football camp at Francis T. Maloney High School.

In an exclusive interview with Sportskeeda, Mostert spoke about this upcoming season and set a lofty goal of increasing his touchdown total while helping his team win.

Mostert said:

"Just elevate, one game, one season at a time. My next move is to try to get 19 rushing touchdowns and help the team win."

Mostert has played for five different teams in his nine seasons. It wasn't until his fourth season with the San Francisco 49ers that he started getting involved in the offense with meaningful snaps.

After playing in just one game during the 2021 season due to a knee injury, the Dolphins signed Raheem Mostert in 2022 to a one-year deal and resigned on a two-year contract before the 2023 season.

The Miami Dolphins offense has a pretty deep backfield.

Raheem Mostert and rookie De'Von Achane combined for the second-most rushing yards of any duo in the NFL last season with 1,812 yards and 26 touchdowns. Then you have veterans Jeff Wilson Jr., Salvon Ahmed, and rookie Jaylen Wright on the roster who will compete for reps in Miami's crowded backfield.

Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel knows the type of talent he has in the backfield this season and said the workload will be shared but led by Mostert heading into the season.

McDaniel said via ESPN:

"The whole group, pretty much led by Raheem, it is of quality and depth as good as I've been around -- and I've been around a lot of good groups."

Miami finished last season with an 11-6 record, entering the playoffs as a wildcard team. They lost on the road to Kansas City in one of the coldest games in NFL history.

The AFC East could be a three-way battle between the Miami Dolphins, Buffalo Bills, and the New York Jets.
