Puka Nacua came down with a knee injury on Sunday, Aug. 7. The star second-year wideout prompted a scare for Los Angeles Rams fans, but he appears to have dodged a bullet. According to head coach Sean McVay, there's not much to be worried about.

McVay said via Adam Schefter on X/Twitter:

"It's just going to be week-to-week with him. Nothing serious, nothing structurally. He'll be in good shape. He'll recover and be ready to go. No threat of anything for Detroit."

He also said what happened initially, via NBC Sports:

“Yeah, he got his knee banged up. "[He] really just had a little bit of a bursa sac, kind of burst it."

The Rams play the Detroit Lions to open the regular season, but they have three preseason games before then. McVay's comments may indicate that he's planning on resting his star for all three contests.

The Rams open the preseason this Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys. Nacua will likely not play, but his status for the other two remains to be seen.

Nacua had a tremendous rookie season, setting multiple records and nearly winning the Rookie of the Year award. He took over the top wide receiver role for the Rams.

Fantasy owners need not worry about Puka Nacua

A Los Angeles Rams wide receiver, someone many expect to be among the first wide receivers taken in fantasy football this year, has been injured in preseason. This is a familiar refrain and a cautionary tale from last season.

However, based on McVay's reaction, it doesn't look like this is another Cooper Kupp situation. Kupp was hurt last year but still got drafted in the first round of many fantasy drafts, and he hardly played. When he did play, he was clearly not the same.

Nacua should be healthy and ready to go in Week 1. There's some concern over whether or not that timeline will hold true, but fantasy managers should be able to draft him without the same fear they had with Kupp.
