Rams part ways with Bobby Wagner as franchise looks ahead to rebuild

After spending one season in Los Angeles, linebacker Bobby Wagner was released by the Rams.

ESPN reporter Adam Schefter reported the news on Thursday evening.

Wagner signed a five-year contract worth up to $65 million with the Rams last year and is out after one season with the team. The Rams need more cap space as they look to rebuild, and Wagner wants to play for a contender as he enters the final years of his career.

Wagner started and played in all 17 games for the Rams last season. He recorded a a career-high six sacks while totaling 140 total tackles, 10 tackles for a loss, five pass deflections and two interceptions.

Even in his 11th season, Wagner was extremely productive on defense. He earned his ninth-straight All-Pro honors as he made the second team.

Wagner will become one of the top free agents this offseason. The 32-year-old linebacker won't be able to sign with a new team until the new league year, which begins on March 15.
