Derrick Henry is proving himself a worthy acquisition for the Baltimore Ravens. The star running back, who had joined the team as a free agent during the offseason, scored the first touchdown of the 2024 NFL season on Thursday against the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs. He took a handoff from Lamar Jackson and sprinting his way into the end zone:

The Chiefs would eventually respond three minutes later via a 21-yard rushing touchdown by record-breaking rookie wideout Xavier Worthy. They took the lead in the second quarter via a Harrison Butker field goal.
Derrick Henry says Mark Ingram II was a major proponent of his joining Ravens
Everyone knows what Derrick Henry brings to Baltimore, but one question still lingers: Why did he go there after becoming a free agent? Back at his introductory press conference, he had said:
"I definitely wanted to be somewhere that had a solid foundation, and this foundation has been set for a very long time."
And speaking to Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer, he also cited former running back Mark Ingram II, who like him played collegiately at Alabama and himself became a Raven, as a major driving factor:
"Everything he said about the organization was great, so you know I really take his opinions, his advice into consideration. That's like my big brother. ... He loved [the Ravens] from top to bottom."
Meanwhile, one of the things that excites Henry the most about donning the purple-and-black is having a divisional rivalry with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Speaking to Yahoo Sports, he said:
"I know the big thing around here is the Pittsburgh Steelers, and they say that you are not a Raven until you beat (them). We got a little long ways to go, and we'll cross that bridge when we get there. But that rivalry is definitely real over here in Baltimore."
The two teams will first clash in Pittsburgh on November 17. Then they will clash in Baltimore on December 21.
