Hall-of-Fame tight end Shannon Sharpe finished his NFL career with three Super Bowls and has since gone on to have a successful media career. However, he still has some regrets.

On the Club Shay Shay podcast with guest Mark Cuban, Shannon Sharpe revealed that while playing for the Baltimore Ravens, he had a chance to buy $300,000 worth of Google stock but turned it down at the suggestion of his financial advisor.

"Remember when Google came out and they thought the shares were going to open up about $85 a share? I remember saying to my financial guys, and I'm like, 'You know what? I had just signed with the Ravens, so I had some money, and I was like 'Man, I like to buy, you know, $300,000 worth [of Google's shares].' Well, it opens up at $115 and he says it's overpriced."

The former Broncos player also said that there was some Netflix stock he didn't purchase eithe.

Mark Cuban pacified Shannon Sharpe as he reveals not investing in Google during Ravens days

Mark Cuban tried to mollify Shannon Sharpe by revealing that sometimes shares are not a certain bet.

He gave the example of NVIDIA and said that he told his son that that's not something he should go for, only for the company to then go and have a surge in its share value. He said that for every Google that the former Ravens player missed, there were others that he could have lost his money on.

Even though at the end of the conversation, Shannon Sharpe eventually agreed that it probably evens out, one can understand his frustration. As of Oct. 1, 2024, Google has a market cap of $2.06 trillion. NVIDIA is even higher at $2.87 trillion.
