Both Rob Gronkowski and Patrick Mahomes know what it takes to get to the Super Bowl. However, Gronkowski's Patriots never had to deal with a late-season injury to Tom Brady like the one Mahomes is currently facing.
As such, it puts the Chiefs in a difficult position, despite holding the top seed. Do they risk the seed to guarantee they will have their quarterback or do they roll the dice? Speaking on Wednesday's edition of "Up and Adams," former Patriots star Rob Gronkowski explained what be believed the Chiefs should do.
"I believe you should start Carson Wentz," Gronkowski said. "I think that's more important than getting the No. 1 seed, because once you're in the playoffs and you're 100% healthy, you can do damage, even if you don't have the number one seed."

The Chiefs won the Super Bowl last year with only one home game, so Gronkowski's recommendation isn't the most radical idea. Plus, Chiefs fans would get a chance to see Carson Wentz, a long-time NFL starter, work with Andy Reid. In other words, there's a chance that playing Wentz doesn't end up costing the Chiefs anything in the end.
Chiefs' upcoming schedule makes decision on Patrick Mahomes more difficult
Of course, while the decision to rest Patrick Mahomes ultimately might not cost the Chiefs anything in the seeding, the road ahead makes it seem like that could be the case. The Chiefs face Russell Wilson, who they lost to in a blowout last year. They also face the Denver Broncos, who should have beaten Patrick Mahomes if not for a last-second blocked field goal.
They also face the Houston Texans who lead the AFC South. Considering their margin for victory with Mahomes, a switch to a backup quarterback might equate to losses in every game they continue on.
Plus, if they end up limping into the playoffs on a losing streak, it might be impossible to reverse the momentum even with a quarterback change.
Of course, resting Patrick Mahomes isn't a zero-sum game. In other words, the choice isn't to rest him for all three games or none of the games. However, with two of the last three games coming in the next seven days, it might be a choice between two or all three games. What will Andy Reid choose?
