Ronald Jones' fantasy outlook: Should you drop him?

A few hours ago, Kansas City Chiefs running back Ronald Jones sent a tweet that read "Sure would like a RELEASE right about now." The Super Bowl-winning running back is tired of constantly being placed on inactive and not seeing the gridiron since he made a move from Tampa to Kansas.

Ronald Jones is a tank of a running back, and he has been tearing up defenses since the Tampa Bay Buccaneers drafted him in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft. The University of South Carolina alum was heralded as one of the better running back prospects in that year's draft class, and it looks like they were right.

However, since he ended his spell at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Jones hasn't been part of an NFL game. He falls behind Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Isiah Pacheco, and Jerick McKinnon on the depth chart. This is such a step back in the career of a player who has played over ten games a season since his rookie year.

Should you drop him?: Yes, you should drop Ronald Jones as soon as possible, as it is pretty clear he's not dislodging any of the Kansas City Chiefs running backs. At the beginning of the season, it looked like Jones would have a breakout year. However, Andy Reid and co. had other plans.

Ronald Jones' fantasy outlook

On his day, Ronald Jones projects to be an excellent fantasy acquisition, thanks to his versatility, ability to make stand-out plays, and his football IQ, which is pretty high for a running back. While in Tampa Bay, he served as a starter in 2020, where he racked up a stat line of 192 carries for 978 yards and seven touchdowns in just fourteen total games.

However, there's no love for Jones in Kansas, with the newly acquired Chiefs' running back taking part in zero games in the 2022 season as of the time of writing.

As such, Jones' fantasy outlook is nonexistent, and the Super Bowl-winning back is not on the fantasy running back rankings for the 2022 NFL season. He might need to get traded or released to make it up on fantasy boards.

Ronald Jones' timeline

Ronald Jones is an American running back that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers selected as the 38th pick in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft. He served as a key member of the Bucs' backfield upon getting there. And he played in a total of 55 career games for the team, before leaving at the expiry of his contract.

A versatile ball carrier, Jones was lauded for being a handful for opposition defenders, thanks to his high football IQ and big body plays. As a Buccaneer, he totaled 2,174 rushing yards and 18 rushing touchdowns in the 55 games he played.

His biggest moment as a Buc was when he rushed 61 yards as the Buccaneers beat the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LV, giving Ronald Jones his first taste of silverware. However, following the 2021 NFL season, Jones left the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the Kansas City Chiefs to sign a one-year contract. It's fair to say that it hasn't gone according to plan.
