Russell Wilson injury update: Broncos QB out of concussion protocol

Russell Wilson didn't feature in Week 15 as the Denver Broncos quarterback wasn't able to recover from the concussion he suffered in Week 14 against the Kansas City Chiefs.

In his absence, Brett Rypien started for the Broncos and inspired them to a 24-15 win over the Arizona Cardinals, who were also without Kyler Murray, who suffered an ACL injury last week.

After the win over the Cardinals, Broncos head coach Nathaniel Hackett gave an update on Russell Wilson's health. Here's what he said:

“Russell is going to be playing next week, but I thought Brett did a really good job.”

The Broncos will face the Los Angeles Rams next week, and with Wilson back, they are the favorites heading into that game.

Brett Rypien played quite well in Wilson's absence against the Cardinals. He completed 21/26 of his throws for 197 yards and a touchdown along with an interception.

The Broncos' defense stepped up once again and limited the Cardinals to just 15 points. They'll hope to carry this momentum next week against the Rams as well.

This season has been a disaster for Russell Wilson

Many were excited by Wilson's acquisition by the Broncos from the Seattle Seahawks ahead of this season. The team was predicted to be a Super Bowl contender this season, but everything has gone wrong for them.

After Week 15, they are 4-8 and there is nothing left to play for them. Wilson has played poorly this season and his stats are evident. He has a passer rating of 85.0 for 2,805 yards, 11 touchdowns, and 6 interceptions in 12 games this season.

Nathaniel Hackett is also under pressure and may not return next season. There is optimism that Wilson may improve with a new head coach as Hackett has been unable to bring the most out of him.

The Broncos won't even have their own first-round pick next season after trading it for Russell Wilson, so it'll be interesting to see what adjustments they make in order to make a run at the Super Bowl.

Their defense is one of the finest in the league, but their attack needs a lot of improvement if they want to contend next year.
