Quarterback Russell Wilson is remembering his late friend, Kobe Bryant. The five-time NBA Champion and his 13-year-old daughter Gianna, died in a helicopter crash on January 26, 2020, in California.
On Sunday, the fifth anniversary of their tragic deaths, Wilson honored Kobe and Gigi with a touching post on X.
"Kobe & Gigi Psalm 147:3 “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds," Wilson wrote on X

Kobe Bryant and his daughter, along with seven others including the pilot, all died when their helicopter crashed into the side of a mountain in Calabasas, California. They were headed to a youth basketball tournament and Bryant's Mamba Sports Academy in Thousand Oaks, California.

Since the tragic death of Kobe Bryant and his daughter, Russell Wilson and his wife, singer Ciara have remained close to Vanessa Bryant and her three daughters. The Wilson and Bryant families spend a lot of time together, which includes joining trips to Disneyland on certain occasions.
Last Sunday, Natalia Bryant, Kobe and Vanessa's oldest daughter, celebrated her 22nd Birthday. Ciara celebrated the big day by posting a photo on her Instagram story.
"Nani Boo @nataliabryant !! Happy Birthday Young Queen!! We are so proud of you! We love you so much!! 🎂🎉💃🏽." Ciara wrote on her Instagram Story.
Wilson and the Pittsburgh Steelers were eliminated from the playoffs in the wild-card round by their AFC North foe, the Baltimore Ravens.
Days after the loss, he and Ciara announced the passing of their 12-year-old dog Prince, who died after cancer complications. He announced the sad news in a heartfelt post on X.
“Prince” 12 years ago you came into my life. I got you my rookie year & you have been a blessing to our family with so many memories, hugs and kisses from our 4 kids and us. You will forever be a part of us. Today was a hard day. But you overcame cancer 2x and lived 12 years when most live 6. Heaven got a good one! Forever the Prince of Peace. Love you," Wilson said.
The quarterback will enter free agency this offseason and whether or not he returns to the Pittsburgh Steelers remains to be seen.
