Saints fans lose their cool over Rashid Shaheed-Derek Carr's first TD: "MVP season starts today!"

Quarterback Derek Carr got the New Orleans Saints off to an early lead on Sunday afternoon. Carr threw an impressive five-yard touchdown pass into the waiting hands of wide receiver Rashid Shaheed.

Fans at Caesars Superdome went wild as the Saints took an early 7-0 lead over the Carolina Panthers.

Fans on social media were also excited to see Derek Carr's great start. One fan was even bold enough to say that he was going to have an "MVP season" in 2024.

Some fans called Derek Carr a steal on Fantasy Football and commended the QB on the throw. Making a deep play against their NFC South rival is a good sign for the New Orleans Saints and Derek Carr who had their struggles throughout the 2023 NFL season. In 2024, it took just five plays and a total of 76 yards to get the Saints on the board.

Another fan on X was upset that he sat Shaheed in favor of Ja'Marr Chase who didn't have nearly as good stats in the first half. Others called Shaheed a "deep threat" for the season if he continues to make plays like that.

Drew Brees has confidence in Derek Carr's abilities this season

Drew Brees will always have a place in the hearts of New Orleans Saints fans. The Saints legend led the organization to a Super Bowl win and recently said that he has faith in Derek Carr this season.

During Wednesday's episode of "The Jim Rome Show," he expressed his confidence in Carr's talent to lead the New Orleans Saints this season.

"You know, I'm excited for him. I think there's definitely growth, you know, just when it comes to the chemistry with those guys who are in the locker room with him and on the field with him. But it also starts the Klint Kubiak era in New Orleans. I love that San Francisco offense and obviously Klint came from San Francisco."

"I think it provides the opportunity for all of our playmakers to really be in some dynamic situations. I had a chance to go watch them in training camp and see it this offseason as well. I know Derek is really excited to be with Klint in that offense, being in that offense and getting another crack at it here. I think they're poised to have a really good season."-Drew Brees said of Carr.

Derek Carr spent nine seasons with the Las Vegas Raiders after being drafted by the team in 2014. He was released after the 2022 NFL season and signed with the New Orleans Saints in March 2023.
