On Wednesday, news broke that Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn was hired as the next coach of the New York Jets. Glenn was reportedly a candidate for a few coaching roles but it was New York who decided to hire him.
Timothy J Jones, a New Orleans Saints insider and podcaster, reported that Glenn was nearly hired as the Saints' coach. However, Glenn would only accept the job if the team parted ways with its general manager, Mickey Loomis. Glenn also wanted to be part of the hiring process for New Orleans' next GM.
"The New Orleans Saints had a strong chance of hiring Aaron Glenn as their head coach. However, Glenn requested that the team consider moving on from Mickey Loomis as General Manager and allow him to be involved in the hiring of a new GM. The Saints were not willing to make this change, according to sources," Jones tweeted.

The New Orleans Saints were not ready to move on from Mickey Loomis which essentially took Glenn out of the running. Glenn played his final season with the Saints in 2008 and was their defensive backs coach from 2016-2020.
Aaron Glenn vows to 'win a championship' with Jets
Aaron Glenn's career as an NFL linebacker began with the New York Jets in 1994. It's only fitting that his career as an NFL coach would begin with the team.
Glenn will be tasked with finding success with the Jets, a team that hasn't been to the postseason in 14 years. After the news of his hiring, the team released an official statement from their new coach. He promised the team and its fans that he would do everything in his power to win a championship.
“To our players, prepare to be coached with everything we have. That is our responsibility," Jones said via the Jets' statement. "I ask that we share the same vision and that’s working towards winning a championship. To our fans, simply put, expect a winning team that you will be proud of.”
The Jets' struggles hit an all-new high in 2024 as Aaron Rodgers and the offense struggled to find any rhythm. Robert Saleh and Joe Douglas were both fired and the team finished with a 5-12 record.
