As if losing to the Buffalo Bills wasn't enough which ended the Detroit Lions' 11-game winning streak, they received more bad news. Running back David Montgomery reportedly sustained potentially a season-ending MCL knee injury during the Week 15 matchup. He is scheduled to undergo more testing and get a second opinion later this week.
The injury happened in the second quarter when he was trying to block in pass protection while the team attempted a fourth-down conversion. He limped off the field but came back after halftime. However, Montgomery had to exit again and Jahmyr Gibbs filled in for him for the rest of the game.
NFL fans were shocked to hear that the injury could be season-ending and took to X (formerly, Twitter) to react to the news. One fan said that David Montgomery's injury meant that the Lions' Super Bowl dream would come to an end this season.

"Say goodbye to Super Bowl run"
"The Lions are legit cursed this year," another fan wrote.
Other fans also chimed in with their reaction to Montgomery's injury update.
"Yea just focus on 2025 at this point," one fan said, dejected.
"Dream season might be cooked" another fan said.
"They still have gibbs so it doesn’t matter" one fan said that Gibbs would more than fill in for Montgomery.
"WHO PUT A CURSE ON MY TEAM" another fan lamented.
Who will fill in for David Montgomery while he recovers?
Jahmyr Gibbs will need to shoulder more responsibility during David Montgomery's absence. Till now, they divided the pie almost equally. While Gibbs totaled 186 carries and 39 receptions, David Montgomery recorded 185 carries and 36 receptions.
Although, when it comes to yards per carry Gibbs has been the better. He has averaged 5.6 yards per carry whereas Montgomery has averaged 4.2.
In the remaining three games of the season, the Lions will take on the Chicago Bears, the reigning NFC champions, the San Francisco 49ers, and divisional rivals and division title contender, Minnesota Vikings.
While the Lions have clinched a playoff berth, the upcoming games will tell if it will be a divisional berth or a wild card one.
Will the team manage to record three wins in these games despite Montgomery's absence? Or will Gibbs fail to fill in for his teammate?
