Geno Smith is already off to a bad start in Thursday's game - and on his 34th birthday no less. On the opening drive of the San Francisco 49ers-Seattle Seahawks game, the quarterback overthrew a pass intended for Tyler Lockett, allowing safety Malik Mustapha to intercept the ball:

There was much anger and groaning from fans after the play:

"Geno Smith is a**"

"Geno wtf," said one fan.
"Ouch!!!!!!!" added another fan.

More of the Seahawks fans' sad comments can be seen below:

"And so it begins…," one fan wept.
"The Seahawks need to move on, they aren't winning a super bowl with Geno as QB," another demanded.
"Are we really doing this AGAIN this week?!!" another raged.

The 49ers, however, would be limited to a 25-yard field goal by Matthew Wright, filling in for an injured Jake Moody, on their ensuing drive. The first quarter ended with no more scoring drives.

Geno Smith looking for first win vs. 49ers as Seahawks starter

Since his elevation to the Seahawks' starter in 2022, Geno Smith has had the best stretch of his career. He has set career bests, started a playoff game for the first time in his career, made two Pro Bowls, and been named Comeback Player of the Year.

But there are many things that he has yet to accomplish. One of them is defeating the 49ers, who are 5-0 (including the postseason) against him. Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, he said:

"Those five games don't help them, don't help us. It's about this game. That's all that really matters... You can go past that and say we've beat them five straight times. So, I think it doesn't really matter," Smith said per NBC Sports Bay Area.

He continued by praising the defense - and especially defensive end Nick Bosa and linebacker Fred Warner:

"Obviously they're great at causing turnovers. You talk about personnel, Nick Bosa, one of the better D-ends in the league, Fred Warner, one of the better middle linebackers in the game. They've got playmakers all around, they play together, they fly around, they've got swagger, they're proven, they believe in themselves."

Things are not looking good for Geno Smith and the Seahawks. At the time of writing, the 49ers have since hit the endzone via a Deebo Samuel 76-yard reception and hold a 13-0 lead in the second quarter.
