Since hiring Sean McDermott as their head coach in 2017, the Buffalo Bills have failed to make it to the playoffs only once, which came in 2018. Outside of the Kansas City Chiefs, they have been the most consistent team in the AFC, however, their consistency hasn't been capped off with a crowning moment.
Despite making it to the postseason in seven of the last eight seasons, the Bills haven't ventured as deep as they'd have liked. They have made it to the AFC Championship Game only once and were thrashed 38-24 by the Chiefs in that outing.
Many are backing the Bills to break their Super Bowl duck this year. Quarterback Josh Allen is among the frontrunners for the MVP award and Buffalo is the only team to beat Kansas City this season. The stars may finally be aligning for the franchise, however, Colin Cowherd believes that if they falter, the top brass might wonder if McDermott has peaked as a coach. Speaking on "The Colin Cowherd Podcast" the analyst said:
"Josh Allen has been excellent [in playoffs]. If they get bounced early in the playoffs, and I know this sounds crazy, and I like Sean McDermott, but if Cincinnati got in and played Buffalo in the first round and Cincinnati won, I'm telling you, I think [Sean] McDermott is in trouble. Because when I watch this team. I don't want to hear about Josh Allen."

Colin Cowherd "fascinated" by Sean McDermott's Bills
Colin Cowherd claimed that Sean McDermott has no choice but to at least match the best playoff run he's managed during his stint as the Bills' head coach or potentially face the axe in the offseason:
"This team, this coaching staff, has real pressure on them... I am fascinated to watch Buffalo. They have to, at minimum, get to the conference championship at minimum, in my opinion."
The Chiefs have been Buffalo's Achilles heel in the playoffs. They have eliminated them thrice in the last four seasons, including last year, when they beat the Bills at Highmark Stadium in the divisional round.
The two AFC heavyweights are on a collision course for a bout in the Conference Championship Game. However, the Bills will potentially have to battle Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens in the divisional round before battling for the AFC title. If they fail that test, as they did in the regular season, McDermott's future as the team's head coach could be in jeopardy.
