Could Rams running back Cam Akers be headed out of Los Angeles?

Head coach Sean McVay spoke to reporters this week and addressed Akers' current status with the team as he ruled the running back out of Sunday's game vs the Panthers.

As the trade deadline nears, it also seems as if McVay and the team could be working to move Akers.

McVay said of Akers:

"I'm working through some different things with Cam. He wasn't here yesterday, he won't be here today and he'll be out for the game. We're just working through some different stuff. We're gonna leave that inside the house and that's that right now as it relates to Cam."

A reporter then asked McVay if he thinks Cam will still be a part of the team.

McVay replied:

"We're working through some things now and so, like I said, just kinda want to be able to, hopefully, you guys understand and respect that. We're gonna just want to keep things internally now."

Akers was drafted by the team in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft out of Florida State.

He had a solid rookie season rushing for 625 yards and two touchdowns, while also adding 123 receiving yards and a touchdown.

Before the start of the 2021 season, Akers tore his Achillies tendon and was placed on IR, with the Rams RB expected to miss the entire season. He returned for the Rams' last regular-season game and played in the playoffs when they won the Super Bowl.

Through four games in 2022, Akers hasn't been very productive. He's averaging 2.6 yards per carry and hasn't found the endzone yet.

Are the Los Angeles Rams moving on from Cam Akers?

It seems as if the Rams are possibly open to trading/moving on from running back Cam Akers.

Since 2020, Akers has only scored four touchdowns and has just over 1,000 yards. As a second-round pick with an Achilles tear and minimal production, the Rams could think about moving him.

Los Angeles also has Darrell Henderson, Malcolm Brown, and rookie Kyren Williams.

Henderson has been their feature back and their most productive back since entering the league in 2019. He's scored 11 rushing touchdowns and four receiving touchdowns since entering the league.

If and when the Rams move on from Akers, Henderson will have an expected increase in production with Brown and Williams being more involved when he's healthy.
