Shannon Sharpe attacks Micah Parsons for discussing Joe Burrow's MVP chances

Micah Parsons thinks Joe Burrow should be the MVP, even though the Cincinnati Bengals have taken until late in the season to come good. That has earned Parsons much condemnation from Shannon Sharpe.

On Tuesday on First Take, Hall-of-Fame tight end Sharpe said that the multiple-time All-Pro and Pro Bowl linebacker should focus on helping his Dallas Cowboys win rather than talk about other players:

"Shouldn't we be talking about Micah and what he did on the field as opposed to what he's saying off of it. When was the last time you heard 'Micah is one the best defensive players in football"? You're doing a lot of yapping bro.'

He continued:

"You're going to have to ask yourself ,'"hy do I have this extra time?" Because every quarterback that you play looks like Joe Burrow, from Derek Carr to Jalen Hurts to Jayden Daniels. ... Bro you got to stop this. You're sounding ridiculous.'

Burrow has since cast doubt on his MVP chances, saying on Tuesday that it usually necessitates dominating one's division - which he hasn't done.

Micah Parsons calls Cowboys' losing record "not what I envisioned"

The year 2024 marked uncharted territory for Micah Parsons. In his first three seasons, he knew nothing but success. Awards, accolades, wins, playoff appearances - they all happened in that span.

However, for the first time in his career, he experienced futility, as the Cowboys are out of playoff contention and have lost more games than won - the first time since 2020, before he was drafted 12th overall in the subsequent draft.

Speaking to the press on Monday, Micah Parsons concurred with that notion:

“Definitely not what I envisioned, definitely not what I hoped for. Coming off a devastating playoff loss and you say, ’Hey, I’m just going to get the same team back and we kind of know what it’s going to look like, what the team’s going to be like.'”

However, he sees it as somehing that will only make him more determined to help the team return to success in the future:

“But you say there’s other teams who are fully healthy and they’re not where we’re at right now. I’m going to take that as a grain of salt and use that as motivation to go toward next year.”

The Cowboys end their season against the Washington Commadners. Kickoff is at 1 p.m. ET on Jan 5, 2025.
