Should I drop Elijah Moore in fantasy football Week 7?

New York Jets v Philadelphia Eagles
Elijah Moore of the New York Jets looks on from the sidelines

Elijah Moore is sixth on the New York Jets in catches and has started every game so far this season.

Moore debuted last year as a second overall pick in the 2021 draft. He participated in 11 matches as a rookie, recording 43 receptions for 538 yards and five touchdowns. He has 16 receptions for 203 yards this season without any touchdowns.

A year after selecting Moore with the 34th overall pick, the New York franchise has opened the season with a 4-2 record, their best start since 2015.

After an impressive debut season, Elijah Moore became a favorite among many fantasy experts. However, with the Jets selecting Garrett Wilson 10th overall in this year's draft, Moore's hype appeared to be diminishing.

Elijah Moore's stats and fantasy outlook

Elijah Moore's failure to dominate targets over Braxton Berrios, Garrett Wilson, and Corey Davis is not a good sight.

Moore is yet to score more than 10 fantasy points this year. He has only made one catch on four targets over the last two matches. It's also important to note that with each passing game, his snap rate has decreased.

Moore had an average snap rate of 90% from the first to the fourth match. On average, he's been taking 62% of the snaps over the last two weeks. His influence is waning quickly.

For valid reasons, the Jets have prioritized their running game. Since suffering a knee issue in the preseason, Garrett Wilson has largely been out of form. In contrast, Breece Hall has been absolutely lethal. Because of this, the Jets are utilizing more sets with two tight ends to bolster their running game.

This strategy has been successful, so fantasy owners shouldn't anticipate it to change soon. Elijah Moore has subsequently been removed from the game due to the change in offensive strategy.

Suppose the reasons as mentioned above are not enough justification for benching Moore. In that case, four of his next five games are against elite pass defenses. Moore does not look like a start-worthy player; therefore, you should bench him.

Once head coach Robert Saleh pivots back to a pass-balanced attack, you can reconsider Moore on your fantasy team. However, even then, he'll be facing stiff competition for targets from his fellow wideouts.
