Fantasy football Week 9 lineups: Should I start Tom Brady, Justin Fields, or Marcus Mariota?

Today we have to choose one from Tom Brady, Marcus Mariota, or Justin Fields - three quarterbacks with vastly different play styles - as a starter in Week 9.

First off, there's the old gunslinger, the greatest quarterback of all time, the greatest football winner, and a QB that has seen it all. Tom Brady has been playing in the NFL almost as long as Justin Fields has been on earth, and the GOAT doesn't seem to be slowing down.

Tom Brady is in his third season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and the quarterback is still adding value to his franchise. It is thanks to him that they are arguably still within a shot of making the playoffs.

Marcus Mariota, on the other hand, is an experienced and dedicated quarterback who calls the shots for the Atlanta Falcons, and he has come into his own this season.

Mariota has proven to be more than just a system QB, as he has showcased new facets of his game that NFL fans never knew existed. For that reason, he is within such an illustrious company near the top of the QB rankings.

Then, there's Justin Fields, the starting quarterback on the Chicago Bears, a QB that received so much slander not too long ago that it was bordering on ridiculous.

However, Justin Fields has proven his resilience, and he has bounced back to be one of the better QBs in the league since Week 5. He enters Week 9 with options upon options.

Verdict: There is a reason why Marcus Mariota is in the top 10 fantasy football quarterback rankings while Tom Brady and Justin Fields are not. He has been the most consistent of the three, and he is showcasing just how special he is.

Why Marcus Mariota is a better fantasy pick than Tom Brady and Justin Fields

Marcus Mariota is one of the best, yet underrated, dual-threat QBs, and is equally and deceptively impressive in both aspects. He is currently seventh in rushing yards and tied for second in rushing touchdowns among quarterbacks.

This will make for good readings when he faces off against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 9, with the Chargers being one of the more suspect defenses in the league.

Tom Brady and Justin Fields are decent prospects, but they aren't currently performing as well as Marcus Mariota. Tom Brady might be as accurate as ever with the ball, but it looks like Mike Evans is the only reliable wide receiver on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers roster.

Justin Fields is as good a rusher as Marcus Mariota, maybe even better, but for some reason, he's still so fixated on tossing the ball. Unfortunately, that has led him to a bunch of skids in the fantasy league. But it remains to be seen how he will utilize the new Bears' addition, Chase Claypool.

How have Tom Brady, Marcus Mariota, and Justin Fields performed this season?

Tom Brady has had a decent start to the 2022 NFL season, not bringing up fireworks but still largely maintaining his statistical output from last season. In terms of stats, Tom Brady is putting up a stat line of 2,267 passing yards, nine touchdowns, and one interception in eight games.

On the other hand, Marcus Mariota is having one of his best seasons ever, with the Oregon State University alum putting up a stat line of 1,432 passing yards, 10 touchdowns, and six interceptions in eight games.

Then lately, Justin Fields has been proving the doubters wrong in the 2022 NFL season. The Chicago Bears shot caller is dropping stats of 1,199 passing yards, seven touchdowns, and six interceptions in eight games.
