Tyreek Hil and the Miami Dolphins' final game of the 2024 season was a microcosm of their disappointing campaign. They needed a win against the 4-12 New York Jets at MetLife Stadium to stay in the playoff hunt. Instead, they lost 32-20 and finished the year with an underwhelming 8-9 record.

A win for Miami ultimately wouldn't have mattered as the Denver Broncos took care of business against the Kansas City Chiefs with a 38-0 win to book their playoff berth. However, the Dolphins could have still tried to cap the season off with a win. Instead, they seemingly gave up in the second half, as a few stars, like wide receiver Tyreek Hill, not even playing in the final two quarters.

The veteran isn't only done with the season. After the game, he claimed he was done with the Dolphins and wanted to leave the franchise in the offseason. In an astonishing interview, Hill said:

“I have to do what’s best for me and my family — if that’s here or wherever the case may be. I’m about to open up that door for myself. … I’m out, bruh. It was great playing here but at the end of the day, I have to do what’s best for my career.”

Fans on social media lambasted the wide receiver for quitting on the franchise that handed him a three-year, $90 million contract extension only five months ago:

"If the Dolphins would just cut him today, that'd be great," another fan said.

Several fans claimed that Hill shouldn't have forced a move away from the Kansas City Chiefs and join the Dolphins for an exorbitant contract:

"Bro had Patrick Mahomes. Money ain't everything." - Wrote @Mauii_NFT
"Biggest mistake ever was leaving KC. That’s what happens when ppl are greedy." - Opined @TheRyanBidwell
"Shoulda stayed with the Chiefs boy." - Remarked @CreedDavi

Mike McDaniel seemingly confirmed Tyreek Hill quit on the team

Tyreek Hill finished the first half with two catches for 20 yards and needed only 41 in the second to go past the 1,000-yard mark for the fifth straight season. However, he did not play in the third or fourth quarter and finished the year with 959 yards.

The assumption was that the veteran wide receiver had suffered an injury. However, head coach Mike McDaniel hinted that Hill took himself out of the game and essentially quit on the team. In the post-game press conference, he said:

“I was informed that he was unavailable right before a drive. I was not informed that it was a new injury, and I think at that point of time my focus was on the players and I didn’t take the time to go and try and figure out more into that. There were guys on the field that were competing, and we were trying to win a game, so my focus was there.”

The wide receiver has seemingly decided that he no longer wants to play for the Dolphins and made a business decision midway through the game against the Jets that he didn't want to get injured trying to win a meaningless game.
