Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce have helped the Kansas City Chiefs make their third Super Bowl appearance in four years. That came after beating the Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC Championship game for the 2022 NFL season. Mahomes and Kelce have proven to be one of the best offensive duos in the NFL, supported by their elite chemistry and true friendship.
Apparently, their incredible connection was inspired by Patrick Mahomes' father, Pat Sr. The superstar quarterback told the story during an appearance on an episode of the "New Heights" podcast with Travis Kelce and his brother Jason Kelce.
"I remember my first game. Tyreek had a huge game, but Travis had one reception for six yards. If you look at our relationship now, you would be like, 'That is crazy!' But my dad tells this great story. We win the game, and Travis is a team player, so he's all hyped up in the locker room, but we go to the family area."
He continued:

"Travis gets out there first, and he was going to see his family. But you could just tell that Travis was kind of down, not down, but like, 'Man, I could have played better.'
But my dad, Bid Silky P, went over there and grabbed Travis and said, 'Hey, he's going to throw it to everybody. So just know, your time's coming.' The next game, we play the Steelers, and Travis has 140 and two touchdowns. My dad said he grabbed him after and was like, 'I told you.' "
Travis Kelce simply responded:
"Silky P, don't lie now! Silky P ain't gonna lie!"
It didn't take long for Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce to blossom as a dominant duo.
Kelce has exceeded 90 receptions and 1,200 yards every season since Mahomes took over as the Chiefs' starting quarterback. He has also been named as an All-Pro in all five of them. The whole thing may have potentially been sparked by a simple conversation with Patrick Mahomes' father.
Who is Patrick Mahomes' father, Pat Sr.?
Pat Mahomes Sr., like his son, was a professional athlete. Rather than building his legacy on the football field, he made his on the baseball diamond during his 11 seasons in the MLB.
He began his professional career as a starting pitcher with the Minnesota Twins, before eventually settling in as a relief pitcher out of the bullpen.
Mahomes went on to spend time with the Boston Red Sox, New York Mets, Texas Rangers, Chicago Cubs and Pittsburgh Pirates, mostly as a reliever.
His career inspired his son to play baseball as well before fully committing to becoming a football player. Patrick Mahomes II was drafted by the Detroit Tigers out of high school but instead chose to attend college at Texas Tech.
