Skip Bayless has offered a controversial take on NFL Hall of Famer Tom Brady's foray into team ownership. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), he warned the NFL legend against suffering the same fate as Michael Jordan in his tenure as owner of the Charlotte Hornets.
"Tom Brady is about take further control of the Las Vegas Raiders," Bayless tweeted on Thursday. "Many times the greatest players do not prove to be great team-builders. See GM Michael Jordan, GM John Elway picking QBs. Here's hoping Tom Brady is as great as an owner/exec as he was as the GOAT."
Seven-time Super Bowl champion Brady became a minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders in October 2024 after his purchase of a 5% ownership stake was approved by NFL owners.

Here's why Bayless is comparing TB12's move to NBA legend Michael Jordan and it raises valid concerns.
The Chicago Bulls legend's stint as majority owner of the Charlotte Hornets (formerly the Bobcats) was marred by underwhelming on-court performances. On top of that, the questionable draft decisions and a 423-600 record over 13 years made things worse.
Side by side, there were some positive aspects well, such as reclaiming the Hornets' name and hosting the 2019 NBA All-Star Game.
Jordan sold the team in 2023 as the Charlotte Hornets could not achieve success under his ownership.
Skip Bayless cited ex-NFL QB John Elway's struggles as Denver Broncos executive to warn Tom Brady
In his tweet, Bayless took the name of former Denver Broncos star QB John Elway alongside NBA legend Michael Jordan.
Like the six-time NBA champion, Elway had a Hall of Fame playing career. However, he faced hurdles as Broncos Executive Vice President of Football Operations in 2011.
Elway's tenure experienced early successes like signing Peyton Manning and clinching a Super Bowl 50 victory. Eventually, it couldn't sustain success, especially in finding a long-term quarterback. One of the blunders was passing on quarterback Josh Allen in the 2018 NFL Draft.
Moreover, the Broncos could not return to the playoffs since their championship win in 2015 until last season. In 2024, the team finally broke the drought and earned a playoff berth after a shutout win against the Chiefs last Sunday.
After Elway's consultancy contract expired, he left Denver in 2023.
What Bayless is trying to hint at Brady is that great players often face unique challenges in transitioning to roles that require building and managing a team.
