The Pittsburgh Steelers ideally would love to extend Russell Wilson after his career resurgence coming off a mostly disappointing two years in Denver. But after his latest performance, fans would rather he not stay.
Speaking to Colin Cowherd on Friday's episode of FS1's "The Herd," insider Jordan Schultz said there was "a very good chance" that the one-time Super Bowl champion could receive a Baker Mayfield-esque three-year, $100-million deal:
But on Saturday, the team suffered a costly 17-34 defeat at the divisional rival Baltimore Ravens. The tone of the game changed early in the fourth quarter, when Marlon Humphrey intercepted a pass meant for MyCole Pruitt and returned it to the endzone for six.

That caused fans to be worried:
"Russell Wilson single-handedly lost us that game tonight. Don’t extend him."
More of the sentiment can be seen below:
"This is why I would be concerned," one opined.
"Russ is unraveling hold up on that contract extension I’m not sold I’m sorry," another demanded.
"I don’t wanna hear shit abt Russ extension," another raged.
Wilson and the Steelers face off against the defending Kansas City Chiefs on Christmas next. Kickoff is at 1 PM ET/12 PM CT on Netflix.
Russell Wilson, HC Mike Tomlin react to Steelers’ loss at Ravens
After the game, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin had some brutal word for his defense, which was missing multiple key pieces - defensive tackle/end Larry Ogunjobi, cornerbacks Donte Jackson and Joey Porter Jr., and safety DeShon Elliott:
"We just didn't do a good enough job. Gap integrity, tackling, fundamental things man. They outperformed us in that area… It’s concerning. We gotta do better."
He also discussed the failed fourth-down attempt on the very first play of the fourth quarter - when Kyle Hamilton deflected a throw meant for Calvin Austin III:
"We got the look we anticipated, man. We had a shot down the field. They made a play, we didn’t."
Russell Wilson, who completed 22 of 33 attempts, threw for 217 yards and two touchdowns, was also briefed, trying to explain what happened during the interception. He began by agreeing with the notion that it changed the course of the game:
"It was front number, and the ball just stayed inside, unfortunately. And they made a play."
Wilson also discussed his fumble, opining that he had a chance to score on that play:
"I just thought, had a chance to go to the end zone. Try to cut back and just got hit… It’s unacceptable. It can’t happen."
The loss puts them and the Ravens in a 10-5 tie atop the AFC North, but they are still ahead via conference record.
