Steelers fans want Mike Tomlin fired after another disappointing end to regular season: "Epitome of mediocrity" - Source: Imagn

On Saturday, the Pittsburgh Steelers suffered their fourth loss on the trot as the Cincinnati Bengals beat them 19-17 at Acrisure Stadium. Pittsburgh's defense and special teams gave the team a real chance to take the game, but the offense was underwhelming, to say the least.

The Steelers trailed by 12 points heading into the final quarter. They managed to cut the Bengals' lead down to two points and gain possession with just under two minutes left on the clock. However, Russell Wilson and the offense failed to manage the clock, could not get in field goal range and turned the ball over on downs, ending the game.

Their final four games have been a real letdown for fans, as while they took on a succession of good teams in a short span, their offense has been lacking. Pittsburgh was 10-3 after Week 14 and then faced the Philadelphia Eagles, Baltimore Ravens, Kansas City Chiefs and Bengals.

They could have potentially taken the AFC's No. 1 seed, but instead lost all four and with them, the chance to win the AFC North. With their playoff campaign set to be on the road, fans were disappointed. They voiced their frustrations on social media and many pinned the blame on head coach Mike Tomlin:

"Mike Tomlin is the epitome of mediocrity - good enough is Tomlin’s standard. #steelers."
"Everyone who is tired of Mike Tomlin raise your hand. 13 straight years of mediocrity and poor decision-making🙋🏻‍♂️," one fan said.

Some claimed that it was time for the franchise to move on from the veteran coach:

"Mike Tomlin is a Hall of Fame head coach. He just maybe isn't the right leader for the Steelers anymore. Everything seems broken," opined @SNParker.
"It's crazy that the Steelers have been on a hamster wheel of mediocrity and collapses and Mike Tomlin escapes everything since he has diplomatic immunity. Any other coach gets fired for 2020, and if they lose next week, gets fired 100%," wrote @TjChamberlain22.
"Fire Tomlin I'm done with this s**t. Here comes a 5-game losing streak to end the season and another one and done," remarked @mike_swaggin_u.

Mike Tomlin's Steelers could face tricky playoff path after Bengals defeat

Pittsburgh's loss has given the Los Angeles Chargers another reason to play their starters to ensure they beat the 4-12 Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday. A win would see them take the fifth spot in the AFC playoff seeding. If the Chargers lose, the Steelers will take fifth.

The No. 5 seed will travel to NRG Stadium to take on the Houston Texans, who are dealing with an injury crisis and looking rocky. Meanwhile, the sixth seed has the unenviable task of battling Lamar Jackson and the Ravens in Baltimore. If the visitors survive that test, next on the menu could be a trip to Arrowhead Stadium to take on Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Steelers could have sealed the fifth spot in the AFC playoff seeding had they beaten the Bengals at home. However, the odds suggest they will have to try and end their five-game losing streak in the playoffs against the Ravens in Baltimore.
