Trevor Lawrence and the 2-9 Jacksonville Jaguars have endured a disappointing campaign and are practically limping to the finish line. Their playoff hopes are non-existent and the best course of action for the team would be to look forward to the 2025 NFL draft. However, Lawrence isn't giving up on his team and the season.

The quarterback, who's nursing an AC joint sprain and missed the last two games, was expected to miss Sunday's divisional clash against the Houston Texans. Given the circumstances, it'd make little sense to field him and risk worsening the injury.

However, according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, Lawerence has made it clear to the Jaguars in no uncertain terms that he intends to play.

Fans on social media were thrilled to learn that the quarterback was eyeing a return to action against the Texans. They also poked fun at backup Mac Jones, who hasn't played particularly well in Lawrence's absence:

"A broken Trevor Lawrence is still a better option than Mac Jones"
"Thank you for saving us from watching Mac Jones," one fan quipped.
Jags coaching staff & football consumers can only watch so much of Mac “Tim Boyle” Jones at QB. I’d rather watch Lawrence play with his left arm in a sling," another fan added.

While some fans were glad, others weren't as pleased about Lawrence risking aggravating his injury, especially with the Jaguars having nothing to play for:

"Doug’s final gift as he walks out the door is Lawrence getting a season ending injury by allowing him to play for absolutely no reason." - Wrote @NathanABrown9, referring to head coach Doug Marrone
"Stay seated mate. Team and coaching is shocking! Come back next year." - Opined @N3BU_LAA
"The season for the Jags is over. He needs to heal and try again next season." - Suggested @NBABoards

Trevor Lawrence considering surgery for injured shoulder

The Jaguars have listed Trevor Lawrence's status for their game against the Texans as questionable on their injury report. The quarterback was a limited participant in practice throughout the week, although he reportedly looked more comfortable throwing the ball.

It's unclear whether they'd field him on Sunday. However, Lawrence pushing Jacksonville to play him suggests he feels ready to go.

On Wednesday, though, Lawrence admitted he could potentially undergo surgery on his injured shoulder.

"I think [the sprained AC joint] has been a pretty difficult thing to gauge, honestly, of what's the best path forward," Lawrence said per ESPN. "[Surgery is] definitely something that I'm considering and not off the table at all. It's something that we're going to have to just [approach] truly day-by-day, week-by -week."

Lawrence will likely undergo a fitness test in the morning. If he gets the green light from the Jaguars' medical staff, he'll mark his return to action after a two-game absence.

But if he's deemed unfit, Mac Jones will continue under center for the third straight game. Jones has completed 31 of 51 passes (60.7%) for 249 yards, no touchdowns and three interceptions in the two games he's started, both of which the Jaguars have lost.
