The Pittsburgh Steelers will be one of four teams to kick off Wild Card Weekend when they travel to Baltimore to take on the Ravens on Saturday evening. The Steelers lack momentum heading into this Wild Card matchup against the Ravens, having lost four straight games to end the regular season.

Their final loss came against the Cincinnati Bengals, who were chasing a playoff spot iat the time. Despite making it to the playoffs, some believe the Steelers stand no chance against the Ravens if Russell Wilson is under center on Saturday night. Former Broncos guard Mark Schlereth is among those advocating for head coach Mike Tomlin to bench Wilson in favor of Justin Fields, who kept the franchise afloat during Wilson's injury.

However, former Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman, who won a Super Bowl alongside Wilson, disagrees. Sherman, appearing on the Up and Adams Show this week, made his feelings clear, saying:

“I don’t know if it’s the time to move to Justin Fields. Russell’s got enough playoff experience. He’s got to protect the ball. They got to run it well. It’s not just the quarterback position holding them back. The defense has got to play better. They have to stop two guys who are very difficult to stop in Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry."

Why 3-time Super Bowl champion Mark Schlereth believes Steelers should bench Russell Wilson

Former Broncos guard Mark Schlereth has been critical of Russell Wilson since his signing with Denver. Despite incurring the highest dead cap charge in NFL history, the Broncos cut Wilson loose but managed to make the playoffs in rookie Bo Nix's first year in the league.

On the Breakfast Ball show this week, Schlereth explained his reasoning for advocating Wilson to be benched, stating:

"If you're going to put it out there and you’re going to beat the Baltimore Ravens, I think the best option is Justin Fields. The way they're playing offensively, the struggles they've had as an offense, not only running the ball but taking sacks, putting yourself behind the chains is a problem. And Russell Wilson has a history of taking sacks. In the last three games, he has taken 12 sacks."

From his side, Mike Tomlin expressed openness to utilizing Justin Fields' "awesome" skill set if necessary in the matchup against Baltimore.
