Tom Brady and Bill Belichick’s influence on football is unquestionable. However, very few coaches have been able to implement their style outside of the New England Patriots. Former Super Bowl champion WR Golden Tate criticized Joe Judge’s attempts to recreate that same style with the New York Giants.

After rising through the ranks under Belichick in 2012, Judge signed with the Giants as head coach in 2020. He tried to implement the Patriots' way there but without much success. Tate, who played only two seasons with New York, had his second year coincide with Judge's arrival and COVID-19.

“My last year was during the COVID year," Tate said. “That sucked because we had to play every single game with no fans in the stadium. It felt like a scrimmage. It sucked. On top of that, I had one of the Patriots’ descendants come on over – Joseph Judge – who thought he can remake the wheel by trying to do everything like Tom Brady and Bill Belichick and it did not fly.”

It was also the season when the partnership between Tom Brady and Bill Belichick broke off. Brady joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2020. Belichick lasted three more seasons with the Patriots before they went separate ways earlier this year.

What happened to Joe Judge after trying to mimic Tom Brady and Bill Belichick?

Joe Judge failed to mimic the works of Brady and Belichick in his two seasons as the HC of the Giants. He was fired by the front office after the team recorded its worst season since 2003, finishing with a 4-13 record.

Following his dismissal, Judge reunited with Belichick at the Patriots. However, without Tom Brady at the helm, the Patriots did not fare much better. After Belichick parted ways with the team, Judge also lost his job as the assistant coach. Currently, he is a senior analyst for Ole Miss Football.
